176 People Registered For 2017 Colorado Aerospace Day At The Capitol

A total of 176 people already are signed up to attend Colorado's Aerospace Day At The Capitol, which is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, March 20.

Aerospace Day is a project of the Colorado Space Business Roundtable (CSBR), the Colorado Space Coalition (CSC), Citizens for Space Exploration (CSE), and the Aerospace States' Association (ASA).

Sponsors of the event are Advanced Mobile Propulsion Test, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Boeing, Colorado Business Roundtable, Lockheed Martin, Office of Economic Development & International Trade, Red Canyon Engineering & Software, Sierra Nevada Corporation, Teledyne Brown Engineering, United Launch Alliance, and University of Colorado Boulder. Other sponsorships are still available.

Colorado-Based Space Company To Build Satellites At MSU Denver

You don’t need eons of experience or a NASA pedigree to build satellites for space anymore. Soon, students at Metropolitan State University of Denver will build the orbiting objects, The Denver Post reports. 

York Space Systems, which is gearing up to build 150 to 200 satellites a year, will move its headquarters into the school’s new Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building this summer — manufacturing facility and all. While York gets new digs and access to aerospace students, Metropolitan State students and faculty can collaborate with York engineers on a new method to mass produce satellites.

DigitalGlobe Acquisition Will End Run of Buying Colorado Satellites

The purchase of satellite imaging company DigitalGlobe by Canada’s MacDonald, Dettwiler & Associates Ltd. will likely end the DigitalGlobe’s history of buying satellites made by Colorado-based companies, the Denver Business Journal reports. 

The shift comes just as Westminster-based DigitalGlobe (NYSE: DGI) plans a $600 million system of satellites it hopes to start launching into orbit as soon as 2020, the newspaper said.
